Modern AI technologies can help you become a much better writer by saving you both the time and effort of writing everything from scratch. However, different companies are advancing at different paces, so they’re not created equal.

While searching for a good AI writing tool, Rytr and Writesonic are among the names that will commonly pop up, so which one of them is the better option for you?

In today’s article, we’ll guide you through a brief comparison between Rytr vs. Writesonic, so you can find out more about what they offer!

A Head-to-Head Comparison Between Rytr vs. Writesonic

1. About the Companies

Let’s kick off the comparison by having a quick look at the two platforms and the language model they use for generating content.

Rytr

Rytr is a powerful AI-assisted writing tool that utilizes the power of AI to write creative content. It was launched in mid-2021 by the current CEO, Abha Godara.

While there isn’t much information about the team behind Rytr or how it works, the writing tool is powered by Open AI’s powerful language model, Chat GPT-3 along with proprietary AI technology.

Writesonic

Writesonic has been in business since late 2020, so it’s slightly older than Rytr but not by a huge margin.

Similar to Rytr, the language model that this writing tool uses is based on Chat GPT. However, as of April 2023, Writesonic now uses GPT-4 in premium plans, which offers an even more reliable and fluid writing style!

2. Overall Content Quality

The quality of the generated content is the core element that sets AI writing tools apart. So here’s how these two performed, based on our tests of short and long-form content samples:

Rytr

Rytr generates decent quality content with professional quality. However, the consistency of the results varied from one keyword to another.

This problem becomes more relevant with larger pieces of content, such as long-form content and blog posts exceeding 800 to 1,000 words, where both the content and outlines almost completely lose their coherence.

However, in shorter paragraphs, the quality of Rytr is quite satisfying. Like other AI writers, it still requires some editing, but it shouldn’t be a hard task with smaller paragraphs.

Writesonic

Similar to Rytr, the quality of Writesonic content varies significantly from one topic to another. In some cases, the quality of Writesonic content is excellent and needs very little editing. In other cases, the content may require heavy editing to make sense.

This heavily depends on the complexity of the keyword as well as the general length of the piece.

Verdict

Both Rytr and Writesonic provided surprisingly good-quality content, especially for smaller pieces.

When it comes to general topics, Rytr’s writing style feels more natural than Writesonic. However, Writesonic provides slightly better quality while writing about complex topics.

All in all, both AI writing tools perform similarly when it comes to writing quality, and they’re both heavily impacted by the length of the content.

3. Main Features and Best Use Cases

Besides writing quality, the features of a writing tool can massively improve its value for money. Here’s a quick overview of the main features offered by the two AI writing tools.

Rytr

Besides writing content in seconds, Rytr offers an impressive variety of features that massively improve the quality of your content, such as expanding, shortening, enhancing, styling, and more.

The tool allows you to pick the preferred writing styles and tones from over 20 different options for more dynamic and engaging content.

Additionally, you can optimize the content so that it’s heavily factual or highly creative. However, you should be aware that highly creative content may cause AI hallucinations (giving false statements that sound believable or plausible).

Rytr also has an integrated SEO writing tool, which allows you to generate search-engine optimized text along with meta descriptions, meta titles, engaging introductions, keyword generation, excellent outlines, and more.

Besides general content, you can use Rytr for a wide range of use cases and purposes, including:

  • Blogging and copywriting
  • Idea and outline generation
  • Copywriting
  • Landing pages
  • Call to action (CTA)
  • Social media and Google ads
  • HR writing (letters, emails, job descriptions, profile bios, etc)
  • Product reviews and descriptions
  • Creative writing (story plots, business idea pitches, song lyrics, etc)

Writesonic

Similar to Rytr, Writesonic also features a remarkable list of features. However, not all features are available right away, as some of them are only limited to premium plans.

Ideally, the standard tool allows you to write articles with over 100 different templates and in over 25+ languages.

The tool comes with its own editor to let you create paragraphs and headings for clearer content that is easier to review and optimize on the spot. The tool also allows you to export your content to WordPress directly after checking and editing.

Besides AI writing, the tool also offers BotSonic as a bonus, which is a custom Chat GPT that helps you write better content for both short and long-form content.

The wide range of features that Writesonic offers allows you to benefit from the platform in several use cases, including:

  • Website copies and landing pages
  • Blog writing
  • Ideas and outline generation
  • eCommerce (product reviews, features to benefits, etc)
  • Social media and digital marketing, such as Google, Face, and Linkedin ads
  • Emails
  • Press releases
  • Personal and business bios

Verdict

Both Rytr and Writesonic offer multiple features that greatly improve their usability, including writing templates, various use cases, and writing in different languages.

However, Rytr offers a wider range of tools and features in their basic plans, compared to Writesonic, which locks away some features (such as long-form content writing and advanced AI writing) in paid plans.

For that reason, compared to Writesonic, Rytr has a slight edge here. Additionally, Rytr offers a larger selection of use cases (around 40+). This also makes Rytr a more suitable choice if you’re looking for a versatile tool that you can use for several purposes.

4. AI and Plagiarism Checking/Detection

While language models are becoming more reliable, AI and plagiarism detection tools are developing almost at the same pace.

These tools are designed to analyze content and language patterns to determine whether it was written by a human or a bot. We tested the two writing tools to check for AI detection and plagiarism, and here are the results:

Rytr

AI detectability is quite a problem for Rytr. We ran multiple AI-generated samples of different sizes through AI detectors and received mixed results.

Some content will pass AI detectors with little to no adjustments while others may require heavy editing to bypass it.

Unfortunately, the irregularity of the results makes it very difficult to establish the factors that determine whether a sample will pass or not.

As for plagiarism, almost all content generated by Rytr was plagiarism-free. This is because the tool features Copyscape integration. However, you still need to check the content yourself.

Writesonic

Similar to Rytr, Writesonic’s AI detection was pretty high, especially when it comes to long-form content where almost all samples were detected.

However, after reviewing and editing the content, most pieces managed to pass AI detectors. In other words, with a little work on your behalf, you don’t have to worry about your brand’s credibility or search ranking.

Writesonic automatically generates plagiarism-free content. Not only that, but it also comes with plagiarism and grammar checkers, which aren’t natively available in Rytr.

Verdict

Unedited text by both Rytr and Writesonic is easily caught by AI detectors, especially long-form content. However, both of them offer plagiarism-free content, so you don’t have to worry about the content being unoriginal.

With that being said, Writesonic walks the extra mile and allows you to manually check for plagiarism and grammatical errors in your content, which is something Rytr is yet to offer.

5. Ease of Use

An AI writing tool must be user-friendly and accessible to all kinds of users. Here’s a quick overview of how the two writers perform in that regard.

Rytr

Rytr’s user interface is designed so that it’s super simple and doesn’t have a learning curve. All features are well organized and come with a simple description that makes them easy to understand.

The writing tool also allows you to optimize your content by selecting various options for drop-down menus, which is much easier than filling things in yourself.

Writesonic

Similar to Rytr, we found Writesonic quite easy to use and has a clean user interface with all the options where you expect them to be.

The cloud-based dashboard lists all the different features and use cases of the platform, so you can pick the one that matches your requirements and generate content without any hassle.

Verdict

The simple design of the two platforms makes them easy to use even for first-time users.

The two platforms also come with quick tour features that help users get familiarized with the features offered.

For that reason, it’s a fair tie between the two platforms, as we didn’t have a hard time accessing the available features in any of them.

6. Support

Now that you know more about the features offered by both AI writers, here’s a quick look at their level of support.

Rytr

Rytr receives multiple updates throughout the year. However, the updates aren’t always consistent, but that’s typically the case among AI writers.

The platform mainly offers customer support through email, but it also has a relatively new chat feature that allows clients to communicate directly with a representative.

However, only premium users get prioritized when it comes to chat and email support, so you can wait for a long time to get a reply, even as a paying customer.

Writesonic

Like Rytr, Writesonic also allows communication through both chat and email. The platform also offers priority support to paying users and a special support team for premium users.

As previously established, Writesonic recently updated its algorithm and code to support Chat GPT-4 for premium plans.

So, the platform is continuously updated, although access to new features depends on the plan you’re subscribed to.

Verdict

Both platforms perform equally when it comes to customer support. However, we find Writesonic more dynamic and responsive to simple inquiries through chat.

On the other hand, Rytr provides access to new features to all of its users, regardless of the plan they’re subscribed to. For that reason, Rytr is our pick for this round.

7. Pricing

The two AI writing tools have a unique approach when it comes to payment. So here’s what you need to know about their pricing.

Rytr

Rytr offers 3 plans for its users. However, all of them get access to almost all the primary content writing features with very few exceptions. The main difference between them is the number of monthly characters.

The free plan is limited to 10,000 characters per month, which is extremely constricting. You can subscribe to the Saver plan and expand it to 100,000 words per month, which costs $9 per month.

However, if you pay $29 per month, you’ll get unlimited characters per month along with priority access to support and a dedicated account manager.

In addition to content writing, Rytr also allows you to generate images with AI technology, although the number of images is limited to the plan.

Writesonic

Writesonic also has a free plan, which is limited to 10,000 words per month and lacks some content writing features, including long-form content.

The long-form plan’s price ranges between $12 to $666 per month, depending on the maximum number of words per month (60,000 to 4 million).

There are also custom plans for businesses and large teams, but you’ll need to contact a sales representative to get a quote.

Verdict

Although Writesonic is slightly more affordable than Rytr, the platform doesn’t offer a truly unlimited plan like Rytr, so the latter offers a generally better deal.

Final Thoughts: Writesonic or Rytr?

All in all, the two platforms offer excellent writing tools with professional AI-generated content to save you time and effort.

However, in both cases, you’ll still need to do some heavy editing to guarantee the quality of the content published on your website.

If you’re on a strict budget or you don’t need a lot of words per month, Writesonic would be a highly affordable choice for you.

However, if you need a cost-effective AI writing tool with plenty of features and unlimited words, Rytr might be an overall better pick.
